Janterm @ HCLC
This Janterm there are two different offerings happening around HCLC:
First up is the January Term class offered by the Design, Art and Technology (DART) Program. Re-thinking Public Places, Re-purposing Everyday Objects, Re-imagining Social Change, co-taught by alum Beth Ferguson and faculty Jaclyn Pryor, pushes students to explore the relationship between public art, ecological design, civic engagement, material culture, technology, and social change. The course will investigate the growing trend of designers and artists re-purposing everyday objects as raw materials to address complex issues related to consumerism, waste, transportation, and energy use. Students will collaborate with faculty, each other, and the local community in designing, creating, and testing a socially engaged public art piece.
Also offered is Digital Modeling: Using Solidworks for Design and Project Development. This workshop, co-taught by HCLC faculty Donna Cohn and alum Jake Horsey, teaches students to use Solidworks, an industry standard CAD program, in the design and documentation of various types of projects. Solidworks is an excellent tool for visualizing design concepts, spatial layout, and precise multi component assemblies. The workshop will teach students the basics of digital modeling and mechanical drafting for the purpose of creating build manuals to aid in project dissemination.
